It is now owned by Wells & Youngs http://www.wellsandyoungs.co.uk/ following the sale of the brands by Heineken in 2011. Its logo depicts a character from a Frans Hals painting known popularly as The Laughing Cavalier. It is the most popular ale brand in Scotland.
During the 1980s and 1990s, McEwans was a very active brand in sports sponsorship, six clubs of football and a team of Rugby League: St Helens RLFC http://www.saintsrlfc.com/ and, of course, The Mcewans National League and Inter District Championship. He expressed this support in any of their beermats.
